Feasibility Study of Potential Solar Power Projects

India has a huge power deficit and initiatives are being taken to find new alternatives to satisfy the demand. One of the most common sources of energy now being explored is solar and its production over other energy sources is rising globally. Currently 22% of energy demand is satisfied by solar energy in India produced domestically. India is ranked number one in terms of solar electricity production per watt installed, with an insolation of 1,700 to 1,900 kilowatt hours per kilowatt peak (kWh/KWP). As on 30 June 2015, the installed grid connected solar power capacity is 4,060.65 MW which supports domestic distribution of solar energy and India expects to install an additional 10,000 MW by 2017.

However to produce solar energy, certain preliminary studies need to be done. APPDCL in co ordination with its JV partners is an expert in this field. A brief of the activities included in feasibility study of the projects are as follows:

  1. Conduct necessary due diligence for land & facilitate registration/lease
  2. Identify Power evacuation options and facilitate approvals
  3. Conduct Solar resource assessment and finalize options for energy yield
  4. Identify best in class EPC vendors, negotiate terms.
  5. Identify lending agencies, negotiate terms and facilitate Term sheet/agreements;
  6. Facilitate in obtaining necessary statutory permits.
  7. Conduct Techno economic analysis, develop options for optimum returns and facilitate finalizing assumptions & approvals

Currently the company is studying the potential of solar power project in Goalpara & Bongaigaon District of Assam. The project sites are identified and the approval for development of the project is under process.
